Special tests
Thanks to close cooperation and individualised support, we are also able to offer you special tests. This way, we can confirm even more performance options of your system, even if they are not necessary for the CE marking.
The following special tests are possible:
1. Comparability analysis
Daniela Schmitz, M.Sc.
If all relevant tests according to EN 12566-3 have been successfully performed, a comparability analysis can be conducted so as to extend the series by a new plant.
PIA offers comparability analysis based on range definitions according to EN 12566-3. We examine whether your new plant meets the requirements of comparability and, therefore, comparable treatment results can be achieved.
2. Holiday home tests / Underload tests
If you would like to sell small wastewater treatment plants in Germany and Scandinavia, an additional holiday home test or an underload test can be useful. Often small wastewater treatment plants are installed in such holiday homes, which can lead to long underload periods. Nevertheless, proper cleaning performance must still be guaranteed. In a test of ten to twelve weeks, different phases are tested with underloads, thereby determining the treatment performance.
An underload test can, for example, be set up as follows:
Prüfphase | Dauer | |
---|---|---|
1 | underload 50 % | 2 weeks |
2 | underload 25 % | 1 weeks |
3 | underload (50 % WE, 0 % on weekdays) | 3 weeks |
4 | underload 25 % | 4 weeks |
3. Testing of submersible pumps for small wastewater treatment plants
4. Range tests in France
Daniela Schmitz, M.Sc.
In its minutes* of 31 May 2011, the French Environmental Ministry establishes requirements on how to determine the comparability of models in a range. These are applicable for plants up to 20 PE. The comparability is determined by practical tests on the different models in the range.
The test of comparability includes the following partial tests:
- 1. Test of the measurement of the oxygen transfer in clean water in aeration tanks according to EN 12255-15. For all new models the oxygen transfer rate must at least match the rate of the initial model.
Measurement of oxygen transfer rate after adding sodium sulphite - 2. Test of the residence time with a tracer test. Residence time of all new models must match the time of the initial model.
Beispielhafter Verlauf der Konzentrationsabnahme in einem geprüften Modell - 3. Measurement of recirculation
Exemplary measurement of sludge recirculation
A minimum of two tests, respectively 2 models is necessary. The model initially tested according to EN 12566-3 Annex B delivers the reference level. Subsequently, all new models of the range have to be tested. Each model of the range has do undergo all three partial tests.
According to the requirements of the French Protocoles d’essais accompagnent, the models must deliver comparable results.

Such a special test, however, does not replace the test procedures according to EN 12566 and cannot alone count as a valid test. Only when a small wastewater treatment plant has successfully completed all relevant tests according to EN 12566 can the system be CE-marked.
